Job Overview
The U.S. Embassy in Colombo is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Office Management Assistant & Leahy Vetting Coordinator in the Political-Economic Office. This full-time role combines office management, executive administrative support, and coordination of the U.S. Government’s Leahy Vetting process. The selected candidate will also receive specialized training on Leahy Vetting procedures.

Company Overview
The U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka represents the United States Government in Sri Lanka and provides diplomatic, political, economic, and consular services. The Political-Economic Office supports bilateral relations and policy initiatives while maintaining high standards of administration and security. Applications for this vacancy will be reviewed on a bi-weekly basis until the position is filled.
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants should possess:
- Completion of two years of university or college studies.
- Minimum two years of work experience in an office or administrative capacity.
- Fluent English language proficiency with excellent written and spoken communication skills, including translation ability.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance.
- Willingness to undergo a background investigation and any required pre-employment assessments.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will:
- Manage and coordinate calendars for Political and Economic Unit Chiefs.
- Review incoming correspondence, cables, and official documents for appropriate action.
- Serve as Office Management Assistant within the Political-Economic Section.
- Coordinate and administer the Leahy Vetting process for military and police training candidates.
- Maintain Leahy logs and worldwide vetting databases.
- Coordinate vetting procedures with U.S. State Department agencies.
- Provide customer service and support to Embassy departments and partner agencies.
- Train Embassy personnel on Leahy Vetting documentation requirements.
- Draft official correspondence, diplomatic notes, cables, demarches, and non-papers.
- Arrange logistics, meetings, travel, and appointments for U.S. Government officials.
- Prepare guest lists, invitations, and representational vouchers.
- Maintain office filing systems and archive documents.
- Handle administrative inquiries and coordinate procurement of office supplies and VIP visit requirements.
