Job Overview

The National Engineering Research and Development Centre (NERD), under the Ministry of Science & Technology, Sri Lanka, is inviting applications for the position of Lab Attendant (PL-2). This is a contract-based role for 6 months, supporting laboratory operations, sample handling, documentation, and technical staff assistance within engineering research and development activities.

NERD is a leading engineering research and development institution in Sri Lanka operating under the Ministry of Science & Technology. The organization conducts engineering R&D projects, industrial innovation programs, and technical services to support national development and industrial needs.

Qualifications & Experience

• Passed G.C.E. O/L examination with 6 subjects including Science and Mathematics in one sitting
• NVQ Level 2 qualification in a relevant field
• Basic computer literacy (MS Word, MS Excel)
• Experience in office or laboratory support roles in government or private sector is an added advantage

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain laboratory files, records, and test documentation
• Enter and manage data related to sample testing and battery-related research
• Assist in collecting samples and monitoring test progress
• Support engineers and technical staff in documentation work
• Handle photocopying, scanning, and printing tasks
• Provide general office and laboratory administrative support

Required Skills

• Basic computer skills (MS Office)
• Ability to handle laboratory documentation and records
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to follow instructions from technical staff
• Good organizational and coordination skills
• Basic understanding of lab operations (preferred)

Salary & Benefits

• Monthly Salary: Rs. 40,008 (as per salary code PL-2 / 01/2025)
• Cost of Living Allowance: Rs. 17,800
• EPF (15%) and ETF (3%) contributions
• Overtime payments as applicable
