The Industrial Technology Institute (ITI), a premier Statutory Board functioning under the Ministry of Science and Technology, is seeking dynamic, energetic, and resourceful Sri Lankan citizens for the position of Research Scientist. ITI is a multidisciplinary research institute dedicated to promoting industrial development through research and development (R&D), contract assignments, consultancy, training, and technical services.

Subjects & Fields of Specialization

Applications are open to candidates specialized in the following subjects or aligned fields:

• Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Botany, Chemical and Processes Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Nanotechnology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, and Polymer/Material Science or Engineering.

Core Application Fields at ITI

The institute deploys these specialties across various industrial fields, including:

• Industrial Metrology, Engineering Physics, Acoustic and Vibrations, and Nanotechnology.

• Analytical Chemistry, Green (Renewable) Energy, Ceramics, and Mineral Processing.

• Electronics, Cosmetic Development, Pharmacy and Pharmacognosy, and Herbal Technology.

• Proteomics, Post-Harvest Technology, and Food Technology (Fruits/Vegetable and Fish/Meat Processing).

Qualifications & Experience

Candidates must satisfy one of the following qualification pathways recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Sri Lanka:

• Option I: B.Sc. Special Degree (04 years) with a 1st Class or 2nd Class Upper in Science.

• Option II: B.Sc. Special Degree (04 years) in Science AND a Postgraduate Degree (with/by research) in Science.

• Option III: B.Sc. Degree (04 years) with a 1st Class or 2nd Class in Science AND a Postgraduate Degree (with/by research) in Science.

• Option IV: B.Sc. Degree (03 years) with a 1st Class or 2nd Class in Science AND a Postgraduate Degree (by research) in Science.

• Option V: B.Sc. Special Degree (04 years) with a 2nd Class Lower in Science.

Key Responsibilities

• R&D Delivery: Perform R&D, experimental development, and technological services to fulfill clients’ quality and timeline requirements in line with institute priorities.

• Technology Transfer: Sourse, adapt, adopt, absorb, and transfer relevant technologies to local industries.

• IP Assessment: Scan, interpret, and analyze techno-legal and business information in patents/IP documents to identify IP-oriented research.

• Reporting & Quality Standards: Issue efficient reports and certificates while ensuring laboratory instruments are calibrated and documented according to the institute’s quality management system.

• Digital Productivity: Utilize the institute’s ERP system and other ICT tools effectively to optimize sectional output.

• Proposals & Training: Prepare multidisciplinary proposals under guidance for external funding, deliver internal seminars, and provide guidance to team members, sub-ordinates, and students.

Age Limit

• Age Range: Must be between 22 and 45 years of age.

• Note: The upper age limit does not apply to current employees of Government Departments or State Corporations.

Salary & Benefits

• Salary Scale: Rs. 91,650 – 102,480 – 15×3,450 – 168,200/- (w.e.f. 01.01.2027).

• Current Initial Step: Rs. 81,675/- baseline plus government-approved allowances, bringing the approximate monthly gross salary to Rs. 126,475/-.

• Financial Incentives: Entitlement to performance-based incentives and an institutional contributory medical insurance scheme.

• Provident Funds: Employees contribute 10% of their gross salary to the institute’s Provident Fund Scheme; the institute adds a 15% contribution, alongside an additional 3% contribution to the Employees’ Trust Fund (ETF).
