The Industrial Technology Institute (ITI), a Statutory Board operating under the Ministry of Science and Technology, is seeking dynamic, energetic, and resourceful Sri Lankan citizens for the post of Research Engineer. Candidates from the following subjects and/or aligned fields of specialization are invited to apply:

• Chemical and Processes Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Nanotechnology, and Polymer/Material Science or Engineering.

The engineering discipline intersects with various high-impact application fields at the institute, including:

• Industrial Metrology, Engineering Physics, Acoustic and Vibrations, and Nanotechnology.

• Green (Renewable) Energy, Ceramics, Mineral Processing, and Electronics.

• Post-Harvest Technology and automated food processing lines.

Qualifications & Experience

According to Web-AD-RS-RE-RS.pdf, candidates must satisfy one of the following qualification criteria recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Sri Lanka:

• Option I: B.Sc. Degree with a 1st Class or 2nd Class in Engineering (04 years).

• Option II: B.Sc. Degree in Engineering (04 years) AND a Postgraduate Degree (with/by research) in Engineering/Science OR Associate Membership of a professional body recognized by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL).

Key Responsibilities

• R&D & Technological Services: Perform R&D, experimental development, and technological services to satisfy client quality and timelines in line with institutional priorities.

• Technology Transfer: Sourcing, adapting, adopting, and absorbing relevant technologies, and transferring them to local industries.

• Intellectual Property Analysis: Scan, understand, interpret, and analyze techno-legal and business info in patents or IP documents to identify IP-oriented research avenues.

• Quality & Document Control: Issue reports and certificates efficiently, and ensure that engineering instruments are calibrated and recorded under the institute’s quality management system.

• System Operations: Utilize the institutional ERP system and modern ICT tools effectively to maximize section productivity.

• Project Proposals & Training: Prepare multidisciplinary proposals for external funding under guidance, host internal seminars, and provide technical training or advice to subordinates and students.

Age Limit

• Age Range: Not less than 22 years and not more than 45 years of age.

• Note: The upper age limit is relaxed for existing employees within Government Departments or State Corporations.

Salary Scale & Benefits

• Salary Scale: Rs. 91,650 – 102,480 – 15×3,450 – 168,200/- (effective 01.01.2027).

• Gross Starting Salary: An initial salary step of Rs. 81,675/- plus government-approved allowances, totaling an approximate gross monthly income of Rs. 126,475/-.

• Incentives: Entitlement to performance-based incentives and a comprehensive contributory medical insurance scheme.

• Retirement Schemes: Employees contribute 10% of their gross salary to the institute’s Provident Fund Scheme, while ITI adds a 15% contribution. An additional 3% will be contributed by the institute to the Employees’ Trust Fund (ETF).

• Current Public Servants: Candidates currently employed in Government Departments, State Corporations, or Statutory Boards must submit their applications through the respective heads of their establishments. An advance copy may be directed straight to the institute.
