Qualifications & Experience

Applicants should satisfy the following requirements:

External Applicants

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

OR

• Associate Membership of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) in the Mechanical Engineering discipline or an equivalent recognized professional qualification.

Internal Applicants

Applicants should satisfy one of the following:

• Fulfil all qualifications required for external applicants.

OR

• Have completed a satisfactory service period of five (05) years in the Junior Management Services Category (JM 1-1) position relevant to the subject field.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and supervise mechanical engineering systems for housing and infrastructure projects.
• Prepare mechanical engineering designs, specifications, and technical documentation.
• Monitor installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems.
• Conduct site inspections to ensure quality standards and regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate with architects, civil engineers, electrical engineers, contractors, and consultants.
• Evaluate mechanical equipment and recommend appropriate engineering solutions.
• Ensure projects comply with safety standards, government regulations, and engineering best practices.
• Prepare technical reports, progress reports, and project evaluations.
• Resolve mechanical engineering issues during project implementation.
• Perform other duties assigned by the National Housing Development Authority.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and construction practices.
• Experience in mechanical system design and project supervision.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of engineering standards, safety regulations, and quality assurance procedures.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to prepare technical reports and engineering documentation.
• Project planning and time management skills.
• Proficiency in engineering software and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
