The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health Vacancies 2026 notification has been officially released by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), which operates under the Ministry of Labour.

Applications are invited from qualified Sri Lankan citizens for the prestigious post of Director General at NIOSH. 💵 Salary Scale

The selected candidate will receive a government-approved salary under the Senior Management category:

Salary Scale:
Rs. 161,140 – 12 × 4,850 – Rs. 219,340

Additional government allowances may also apply according to relevant circulars.

🎓 Educational Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following qualification pathways:

Option 1

• Degree recognized by the UGC in one of the following fields:
  • Medicine
  • Engineering
  • Occupational Safety and Health
  • Ergonomics
  • Physical Science
  • Biological Science
  • Management
  • Commerce
  • Any relevant discipline

AND

• Membership in a recognized Chartered Professional Institute related to the field.

AND

• Minimum 17 years of experience, including:
  • At least 05 years in Occupational Safety & Health policy practice
  • At least 05 years at Senior Management Level

Experience may be gained in:

• Public Service
• State Corporations
• Statutory Boards
• Recognized Private Sector Organizations

Option 2

• UGC recognized degree in a relevant field (Medicine / Engineering / Environmental Science / Occupational Safety / Management etc.)

AND

• PhD in a relevant discipline

AND

• Minimum 05 years experience at Senior Management Level with an excellent service record.

👨‍💼 Internal Applicant Qualifications

Internal candidates must:

• Have completed at least 02 years satisfactory service in a Senior Management (HM 1-1) category post in the institute.
• Demonstrate leadership ability in managing multidisciplinary teams.
• Show proven capability in managing human and organizational resources effectively.

🎂 Age Limit

• Minimum Age: 35 years
• Maximum Age: 55 years

📌 Upper age limit will not apply to internal candidates.

📋 Other Requirements

All applicants must:

• Be a citizen of Sri Lanka
• Be physically and mentally fit to perform duties anywhere in the island
• Have excellent moral character

📝 Method of Recruitment

Selection will be conducted through a Structured Interview by the governing authority of the institute.

🎁 Employment Conditions

• The appointment is permanent.
• The selected candidate will be entitled to:

  • Employees’ Trust Fund (ETF)

Salary placement will follow government establishment regulations.
