Union Bank of Colombo PLC is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join its Finance Department as Senior Manager – GL Reconciliation and Monitoring.
This role focuses on managing General Ledger (GL) reconciliation processes, strengthening financial controls, monitoring risks, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
Position Details
The Senior Manager – GL Reconciliation and Monitoring will be responsible for overseeing GL reconciliation activities, identifying financial discrepancies, managing reconciliation exceptions, and ensuring timely resolution of outstanding balances.
The ideal candidate should possess strong financial control knowledge, analytical capabilities, and experience in reconciliation management within the banking or financial services sector.

Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 7 years of overall experience, including at least 5 years in finance-related functions
- Professional qualification such as CA, ACCA, or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of General Ledger (GL) reconciliations, financial controls, governance, and risk management
- Proven experience in managing complex reconciliation exceptions and process improvements
- Experience supporting automation initiatives will be an added advantage
- Strong understanding of financial systems and data management
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain updated GL reconciliation policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
- Ensure all GL accounts are reconciled and comply with the bank’s GL Reconciliation Policy and Procedures
- Perform independent reconciliation of GL accounts based on risk-based prioritization
- Monitor critical GL accounts including suspense accounts, transit accounts, and zero-balance expectation accounts
- Ensure timely reconciliation of other GL accounts according to established schedules
- Identify and follow up on system imbalances, inter-branch differences, unusual balances, and long-outstanding items
- Obtain explanations and confirmations from relevant stakeholders and coordinate corrective actions
- Escalate unresolved balances, root causes, and potential risks according to approved escalation frameworks
- Monitor aging of outstanding items and ensure timely resolution of high-risk variances
- Prepare and present monthly MIS reports, exception reports, and findings to management
- Maintain proper documentation and audit trails
- Identify recurring reconciliation issues and recommend corrective actions
- Perform analytical reviews to identify unusual transactions and abnormal debit/credit balances
