Educational Qualifications

External Candidates

Applicants should possess one of the following qualification pathways:

Option 1

• A Certificate of Proficiency not below National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 5, issued by a Technical/Vocational Training Institute accepted by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC), relevant to the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing field.

Option 2

• Passes in 6 subjects with 4 Credit passes, including Sinhala/Tamil, Science, English and Mathematics, at the G.C.E. O/L Examination.
• Passes in 3 Science or Technical subjects relevant to the post, with 2 Credit passes including a Credit pass in Chemistry, at the G.C.E. A/L Examination.
• A Computer Certificate Course of not less than 6 months will be considered an added qualification.
• Minimum 2 years of analytical experience in a reputed laboratory.

Trainee Recruitment

Candidates who possess the required G.C.E. O/L, G.C.E. A/L and Computer Certificate qualifications may be recruited as trainees.

Trainees must complete 1½ years of in-house training as a Trainee Quality Control Technician at SPMC and pass the required written test before being absorbed into the permanent cadre as a Quality Control Technician.

Internal Candidates

Internal candidates should possess the qualifications required for external candidates.

Salary

Salary Scale: MA 2-1
Rs. 50,540 – 10 × Rs. 540 – 7 × Rs. 630 – 4 × Rs. 890 – 20 × Rs. 1,190 – Rs. 87,710

According to Schedule II of MSD Circular No. 01/2025, the basic salary of Rs. 50,540/- will be paid from 01 January 2027, while the starting salary point for 2026 is Rs. 46,960/-.

Age Limit

• Minimum age: 18 years
• Maximum age: 45 years
• The upper age limit does not apply to internal applicants.

Selection Method

Recruitment will be conducted through:

• Written Competitive Examination
• Structured Interview

Key Responsibilities

The position is within the Quality Control function of SPMC’s pharmaceutical manufacturing operations.

The role involves quality control and analytical activities associated with pharmaceutical manufacturing, with trainee candidates receiving structured in-house training at SPMC before permanent absorption.
