Job Overview

The Swami Vipulananda Institute of Aesthetic Studies (SVIAS), a constituent institute of Eastern University, Sri Lanka, invites applications from eminently qualified Sri Lankan citizens for the position of Director.

The Director will serve as the Principal Executive Officer, Principal Academic Officer, and Accounting Officer of the Institute, providing strategic leadership, academic direction, and institutional governance in accordance with the relevant University Grants Commission regulations.

About the Institute

Swami Vipulananda Institute of Aesthetic Studies is located in Kallady, Batticaloa, along the New Kalmunai Road. The Institute comprises the following departments:

• Department of Carnatic Music
• Department of Dance, Drama & Theatre Arts
• Department of Visual & Technological Arts
• Department of Information Technology

The Institute offers undergraduate degree programmes in the arts while the Department of Information Technology functions as a service department.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide academic, administrative, and strategic leadership to the Institute.
• Serve as the Principal Executive Officer, Principal Academic Officer, and Accounting Officer.
• Chair the Board and the Academic Syndicate.
• Formulate and implement management policies.
• Introduce academic and institutional development initiatives.
• Implement decisions of the Board and the Council of Eastern University.
• Promote excellence in teaching, learning, research, and institutional governance.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants should:

• Be an eminently qualified citizen of Sri Lanka.
• Meet the eligibility requirements specified under the relevant University Grants Commission Circular.
• Demonstrate outstanding leadership and academic management capabilities.
• Possess the qualifications and experience required for a senior academic leadership position.

Age Requirement

• Applicants should be less than 63 years of age.

Salary & Benefits

Salary Scale:

U-AC 5 (II): Rs. 198,280 – 13 × 4,850 – 261,330 per month

Note: A candidate currently drawing a higher salary than this scale will be placed at the same salary level currently drawn.

• A statement of vision for the development of the Institute.
• A brief account of the objectives and achievements proposed if appointed as Director.

Applicants who are current or former Directors of the Institute should additionally submit a report highlighting achievements during their previous term of office.

Applicants currently employed in the University Grants Commission, Higher Education Institutions, or similar organizations should forward applications through the Heads of their respective institutions.
