Regional Lawyer (Central Region) – DFCC Bank

To assist the Team Leader in guiding and advising the Retained Lawyers and advise other business/operational divisions on legal matters with regard to SME  Banking and Business Banking. To evaluate/prepare and execute legal documents for the SME facilities up to Rs.250 Mn. To be the supervisor of the Retained Lawyers of Central Region.

The Job:

• To supervise and guide the Retained Lawyers with regard to title reports and mortgage bonds and other related security documents prepared by them.
• To assist the Team Leader in sourcing Retained Lawyers and in retaining them by resolving any issues between them and the branch staff.
• To implement processes and controls relating to all legal aspects carried out at regional level .
• To guide and advice the lawyers and other staff with regard to rescheduling facilities and drafting reschedulement offer letters.
• To ensure that non-negotiable clauses of the legal and other related documents are adhered to, as per the Bank`s policy.
• To attend to all post execution processes and following up the registrations of the security documents as per the Bank`s policy and other regulations.
• To provide timely and competent advice on the structuring facilities, acceptability of security or any other matter and negotiate same in a competent manner with clients and other parties.
• To assist the Team Leader in conducting periodical legal audits by visiting branches in the Region
• To be up-to-date on new laws applicable to the bank and industries that deal with the SME branch network.
• To support litigation management as needed.
• Ensure adherence to communication protocols relating to confidentiality, restrictions and such others, as per policy.
• Provide assistance to generate reports and statistics necessary for management.

        The Person:

•  Possess an Attorney-at-Law and Notary Public of Sinhala and English in relevant judicial zone of the Bank Regional Office
• Possess at least  5-10 years of experience in company law and Banking Law
• Strong communication and Presentation skills.
• Excellence in Planning & Organizing, Internal Stakeholder Management.
