Information Technology Officer (JM 1-1) – Bureau of Rehabilitation
Main Purpose of the Post
The Information Technology Officer is responsible for planning, managing, developing, and maintaining the Bureau of Rehabilitation’s information technology infrastructure and digital services. The role includes overseeing IT operations, software development, database administration, network management, cybersecurity, system implementation, and providing strategic technical guidance to ensure reliable and secure IT services throughout the organization.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
IT Management
- Plan, organize, and supervise the Bureau’s IT operations.
- Develop and implement IT policies and procedures.
- Coordinate IT projects and digital transformation initiatives.
- Advise management on information technology matters.
Systems Development
- Conduct system requirement analysis and system design.
- Develop, implement, test, and maintain software applications.
- Monitor system performance and recommend improvements.
- Maintain Management Information System (MIS) reports and business applications.
Database & Network Administration
- Administer databases and ensure data integrity.
- Manage computer networks, servers, and communication systems.
- Configure and maintain network infrastructure.
- Perform system backups and disaster recovery activities.
Information Security
- Implement cybersecurity policies and security controls.
- Monitor network security and system vulnerabilities.
- Protect organizational information assets.
- Ensure compliance with government ICT standards and security requirements.
User Support & Administration
- Provide technical guidance and support to users.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation.
- Supervise IT staff and coordinate assigned technical duties.
- Perform any other IT-related responsibilities assigned by management. The competency matrix on page 9 specifically includes software development, database administration, network administration, network security, system design, and MIS reporting as core functional responsibilities.
Salary Scale
Salary Scale (JM 1-1 – 2016)
- Rs. 42,600 – 70,580
Current Salary Levels
- Grade II – Rs. 42,600
- Grade I – Rs. 51,285
Educational Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
- A Bachelor’s Degree recognized by the University Grants Commission in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or another relevant discipline.
OR
- An equivalent professional qualification accepted by the Government together with the required experience specified in the approved Scheme of Recruitment.
Applicants should also possess suitable knowledge and experience in information technology management and administration relevant to the post.

Promotion
Promotion from Grade II → Grade I is based on:
- Completion of the prescribed period of satisfactory service.

- Meeting all qualifications and conditions specified in the approved promotion scheme.
The Information Technology Officer (JM 1-1) is a senior executive-level IT position responsible for leading the Bureau of Rehabilitation’s ICT operations, software development, database and network administration, cybersecurity, digital transformation, and overall management of information technology services.
