Vavuniya Municipal Council invites applications from qualified Sri Lankan citizens for eight vacancies in the post of Driver – Grade III. Eligible candidates with the required educational qualifications, technical training and valid driving licences are encouraged to apply.

Organization Overview
Vavuniya Municipal Council is a local government authority operating under the Northern Province of Sri Lanka.
The Council is responsible for providing municipal services, maintaining public infrastructure, managing waste collection, supporting public health and sanitation, and delivering essential services to residents within its administrative area.
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants should fulfil the following requirements:
General Qualifications
- Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
- Age should be between 18 and 45 years as at the application closing date.
- The upper age limit does not apply to permanent officers already serving in the local government service.
- Should possess good physical and mental health.
- Should have an excellent character.
- Should have completed five (05) years of continuous permanent residence within the Vavuniya Municipal Council limits.
- If sufficient qualified applicants are not available within the Municipal Council limits, applicants with five (05) years of continuous permanent residence within Vavuniya District may be considered.
- Residency must be supported by a certificate issued by the Grama Niladhari and countersigned by the Divisional Secretary.
Educational Qualifications
- Should have passed six (06) subjects at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination in not more than two sittings.
- Should have obtained at least two (02) Credit passes.
- Should have passed at least five (05) subjects in one sitting.
- Should possess National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 4 or an equivalent technical or vocational training qualification in a relevant field recognised by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC).
Professional & Driving Qualifications
- Should be capable of driving vehicles used for solid waste management, liquid waste management, water supply and other municipal services.
- Should possess a valid driving licence issued by the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic.
- Should have held the relevant driving licence for at least three (03) years.
- The driving licence should cover light vehicles, heavy vehicles and land vehicles (tractors).
Key Responsibilities
- Drive vehicles assigned by Vavuniya Municipal Council.
- Operate vehicles used for solid waste management and liquid waste management.
- Support municipal water supply and other public service operations.
- Operate different types of municipal vehicles and machinery according to assigned duties.
- Maintain vehicle safety and follow road traffic regulations.
- Ensure the proper handling and operation of assigned vehicles.
- Support municipal maintenance, sanitation and other operational activities.
- Carry out additional duties assigned by the relevant authorities.

Required Skills

- Good physical fitness and responsibility.
- Ability to operate municipal service vehicles and machinery.
- Good conduct and discipline.
Salary & Benefits
Salary Code: PL 3-2025
Salary Scale: Rs. 42,780 – 10 × 490 – 10 × 540 – 10 × 590 – 12 × 630 – Rs. 66,540.
The salary scale is based on Public Administration Circular No. 10/2025.

- Applicants must fulfil all required qualifications by the closing date.
- Five years of continuous permanent residence within Vavuniya Municipal Council limits is required. Applicants from Vavuniya District may be considered if sufficient candidates are not available within the Council limits.
- Residency certificates must be certified by the Grama Niladhari and countersigned by the Divisional Secretary.
- Selection will be based on a structured interview and a practical driving trade test.
- The structured interview carries a total of 100 marks, with a minimum pass mark of 40.
- Educational Qualifications: 50 marks (minimum 20 marks).
- Job-Related Knowledge: 25 marks (minimum 10 marks).
- Conduct and Discipline: 25 marks (minimum 10 marks).
- Candidates who pass the required selection stages will be considered according to their merit and ranking.
- Applicants must provide accurate information and relevant supporting documents.
- Applications received after the closing date will not be considered.
