Job Overview

Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka & Finance PLC (MBSL), a subsidiary of the Bank of Ceylon, is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced professional for the position of Operations Monitoring & Control Officer – Junior Executive/Executive Grade.

The role will support the Chief Operating Officer (COO) in monitoring branch and departmental operations, coordinating management information, tracking operational performance, conducting audit observations and supporting governance, compliance and operational improvement initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

Candidates should ideally possess:

• A Bachelor’s Degree or professional qualification in Business Administration, Management, Banking, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Analytics, Operations Management or a related field.
• Professional qualifications in Secretarial Practice, Office Management, Administration, Banking, Finance, Audit, Risk or Business Analytics would be an added advantage.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in banking, financial services or a regulated corporate environment.
• Knowledge of branch operations, operational controls, audit follow-up, management reporting and performance monitoring.
• Experience in preparing reports and presentations for senior management.
• Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders and consolidate information across different business units.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence or MIS tools would be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

• Monitoring and following up on operational activities across branches and departments.
• Collecting, analysing and consolidating operational performance data into management reports and dashboards.
• Preparing summaries, status updates and management information for the Chief Operating Officer.
• Coordinating with Branch Managers and Department Heads on operational matters and corrective actions.
• Tracking and monitoring process improvements, internal control issues and management action plans.
• Maintaining and following up on audit observations, corrective actions and compliance requirements.
• Monitoring the review, approval and implementation of policies, procedures and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Maintaining operational trackers, records and documentation to support effective governance.
• Assisting with operational reviews, special projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Performing other duties and special assignments as delegated by the Chief Operating Officer.
• Supporting management in enhancing operational effectiveness across the organization.

Required Skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good knowledge of banking and financial services operations.
• Strong understanding of operational controls and governance.
• Ability to analyse operational performance data.
• Good report writing and presentation skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Knowledge of Power BI, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence or MIS tools would be advantageous.
• Strong coordination and stakeholder management skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Good understanding of audit follow-up and compliance requirements.
