Position Details

Selected candidates will be appointed to Grade III of the Executive Service Category (Statistician), subject to the applicable public service conditions, the approved recruitment procedure of the Department of Census and Statistics, the Establishments Code, Financial Regulations and Public Service Commission rules.

The appointment is pensionable, subject to future government policy regarding the pension scheme, and contributions are required for the relevant Widows/Widowers and Orphans Pension Scheme. Officers appointed to the position will also be subject to a three-year probationary period.

Age Limit

Applicants must be between 21 and 35 years of age.

According to the Gazette, eligible applicants should have a date of birth:

• On or before: 10 August 2005
• On or after: 10 August 1991

Applicants must:

• Be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
• Be of excellent character.

Selection Process

Recruitment will be based on:

1. Written Examination
2. General Interview

Candidates who pass the written examination will be called for the General Interview according to merit and the number of vacancies. The interview is used to verify qualifications and physical fitness, and no marks are awarded for the interview. Final selection is based on merit according to the written examination marks.

Written Examination

Paper 1 – Subject-related General Knowledge

• Duration: 2 hours
• Maximum Marks: 100
• Pass Mark: 40%

Subjects include local and international statistics, community development, socioeconomic information, environment and society, geographical factors and information technology.

Paper 2 – Aptitude

• Duration: 1 hour
• Maximum Marks: 100
• Pass Mark: 40%

The examination can be taken in Sinhala, Tamil or English, and the selected language medium cannot be changed after applying.

Examination Fee

The examination fee is Rs. 1,200/-.

Payment can be made through the methods provided by the online application system, including:

• Bank debit card with internet transactions
• Bank of Ceylon online banking / Flex App
• Any branch of Bank of Ceylon

The examination fee is non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another examination.
