Position Details

The successful candidate will support refinery maintenance and fabrication activities, particularly welding-related work involving process piping, pressure vessels, storage tanks, structural components and associated refinery equipment.

Qualifications & Experience

Applicants should possess the required technical/vocational qualifications specified by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation for the Assistant Refinery Technician (Welder) position.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out welding and fabrication work associated with refinery maintenance.
• Perform welding work on process piping, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, storage tanks and structural components.
• Undertake welding using relevant processes, including SMAW, GTAW and MIG.
• Carry out 6G welding where required.
• Perform gas cutting, plasma cutting, grinding, gouging and other fabrication activities.
• Interpret and work according to Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
• Read and interpret isometric drawings and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
• Assist with piping and instrumentation-related fabrication and maintenance work.
• Perform tack welding and other preparatory welding activities.
• Carry out or assist with Pre-Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) and Post-Weld Heat Treatment activities where required.
• Follow applicable welding procedures, safety requirements and technical specifications.
• Work in accordance with relevant ASME, API and AWS codes and standards.
• Handle and maintain welding electrodes and other welding consumables appropriately.
• Follow Hot Work safety procedures and refinery safety requirements.
• Coordinate with engineers, supervisors and other technical personnel during maintenance activities.
• Assist with activities connected with Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) and inspection of completed welding work.

Required Skills

• Practical welding and fabrication skills.
• Knowledge of refinery maintenance activities.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and welding documentation.
• Familiarity with welding codes, standards and procedures.
• Knowledge of welding consumables and electrode handling.
• Ability to work safely in a refinery/industrial environment.
• Good teamwork and coordination skills.
• Ability to follow technical specifications and safety procedures.

Salary & Benefits

The advertised salary scale is:

Rs. 107,990 – 134,615
with the applicable incremental structure specified in the recruitment notice.
