About the Organization

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka is responsible for regulating and developing Sri Lanka’s capital market while ensuring transparency, investor protection, integrity, and ethical conduct across the securities industry.

Job Objective

Reporting to the Commission’s Audit Committee, the Head of Internal Audit will ensure that SEC’s internal control systems are effective, compliant, and functioning efficiently while providing objective assurance on governance and accounting processes.

Overall Responsibilities

• Develop annual risk-based audit plans and present them to the Audit Committee
• Implement and monitor internal audit policies, procedures, and guidelines
• Evaluate and improve internal control systems and policies
• Review financial and operational information for reliability and integrity
• Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and organizational procedures
• Safeguard SEC assets and assess operational efficiency
• Review risk management processes across the organization
• Prepare comprehensive audit reports and follow up on audit recommendations
• Maintain effective stakeholder relationships within the internal audit function

Skills & Competencies

Applicants should possess:

• Strong analytical and communication skills
• Presentation and interpersonal abilities
• Knowledge of auditing techniques, accounting, and management principles
• Experience in planning and supervising audit functions
• Computer literacy

Required Qualifications

Candidates should possess either:

• Membership of a recognized professional Accounting/Auditing body

OR

• Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university in:
  • Finance
  • Accountancy
  • Management

Added Advantages

• First Class or Master’s Degree qualification
• Proven track record with minimum 8 years of assistant managerial or executive-level experience

Additional Requirements

• Prior exposure to the capital market or regulatory environment will be a significant advantage
• Excellent communication skills in:
  • English
  • Sinhala and/or Tamil
• Proficiency in IT applications
• Strong negotiation and decision-making skills
• Age between 30 – 45 years
