Job Overview

The Office on Missing Persons (OMP) is inviting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Translator. The selected candidate will be responsible for carrying out translation work related to the functions of the OMP and supporting compliance with the Official Languages Act.

Organization Overview

The Office on Missing Persons (OMP) is an independent institution established under the Office on Missing Persons (Establishment, Administration and Discharge of Functions) Act No. 14 of 2016. The OMP is mandated to address issues relating to missing and disappeared persons in Sri Lanka.

Qualifications & Experience

Applicants should possess:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Translation Studies or a Language Degree (Sinhala, Tamil, or English) recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
• Must be a Sworn Translator.
• Must possess proven translation skills and be willing to undertake translations in:
  • Tamil to Sinhala / English
  • Sinhala / English to Tamil

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake all translation work related to the activities of the Office on Missing Persons.
• Assist the organization in complying with the Official Languages Act.
• Translate official documents, reports, correspondence, and other materials as required.
• Support communication and documentation needs across different language mediums.
• Perform other duties assigned by management.

Required Skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Sinhala, Tamil, and English.
• Strong translation and interpretation abilities.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Computer literacy.
• Sound knowledge of transitional justice will be an added advantage.

Salary & Benefits

Salary Scale:
MA 1-1 2025 – Rs. 46,220 – 10×540 – 7×630 – 4×890 – 20×1,190 – Rs. 83,390.
