Independent Television Network Ltd (ITN) is a premier state-owned media network in Sri Lanka, operating two television channels (ITN and Vasantham TV) and two radio channels (Lakhanda and Vasantham FM), serving Sinhala- and Tamil-speaking communities across the country. ITN also operates ITN Digital, its platform for social media activities, the ITN MAX OTT streaming platform, and the MMC-ITN Campus focusing on digital education and media training.
Qualifications & Experience
Radio Journalist (Vasantham FM) – MA-4 (Non Executive)
External Candidates
- A degree recognised by the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka in Journalism/Mass Communication, Film and Television Production, or Television Programme Production
- OR A certificate of proficiency not below NVQ Level 7 in the relevant field, issued by a Technical/Vocational Training Institute accepted by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission
- OR a certificate of proficiency not below NVQ Level 6 in the relevant field AND at least five (05) years of post-qualifying experience in the relevant field in a government corporation, board or reputed statutory institution
- OR a certificate of proficiency not below NVQ Level 5 in the relevant field AND at least ten (10) years of post-qualifying experience in the relevant field in a government corporation, board or reputed statutory institution
Internal Candidates
- Having obtained the qualifications required of external candidates above
- OR completion of a minimum of eight (08) years of satisfactory service in a post in the Management Assistant Non-Technological (MA 1-2) category in a relevant field such as Assistant Producer / Assistant Radio Journalist
Age Limit: Not less than 22 years and not more than 45 years.
Assistant Radio Journalist (Vasantham FM) – MA 1-2 (Non Executive)
External Candidates
- Passed the G.C.E. (O/L) examination in six subjects in one sitting with credit passes in four subjects including Sinhala/Tamil, English Language and Mathematics
- AND passed three subjects (other than the General Paper) at the G.C.E. (A/L) examination
Internal Candidates
- Passed the G.C.E. (O/L) examination in six subjects with credit passes in four subjects including Sinhala/Tamil, English Language and Mathematics
- AND completion of a minimum of five (05) years of satisfactory service in a permanent post under the Primary Level-Skilled (PL-3), Primary Level-Semiskilled (PL-2) or Primary Level-Unskilled (PL-1) category at ITN
Age Limit: Not less than 18 years and not more than 45 years.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, write and present news and current affairs content for Vasantham FM
- Prepare radio scripts, interviews and programme segments in Tamil
- Gather information from reliable sources and verify facts before broadcast
- Assist in the production and scheduling of radio programmes
- Uphold ITN editorial standards and broadcasting guidelines
Required Skills
- Fluency in Tamil (the main language of the channel)
- Strong writing, reporting and presentation skills
- Good voice and on-air communication ability
- Ability to work under deadlines in a broadcast environment
- Basic computer and digital media skills
Salary & Benefits
- Radio Journalist (Vasantham FM) (MA-4 (Non Executive)): Rs. 64,320 – 10×1,360 – 15×1,670 – 5×2,040 – 113,170 per month
- Assistant Radio Journalist (Vasantham FM) (MA 1-2 (Non Executive)): Rs. 46,220 – 10×540 – 7×630 – 12×1,080 – 12×1,280 – 84,350 per month
- Cost of living allowance as approved by the Government
- Monthly attendance incentive allowance as per company regulations
- 24-hour insurance coverage for accidents
- Provident Fund contribution of 10% by employee and 15% by employer
- 3% contribution to the ETF by employer
Until 1 January 2027, remuneration for all recruitments and promotions will be in line with Schedule II of the Management Services Circular No. 01/2025.
