Position Details

The Psychosocial Officer will support psychosocial and related professional activities of the National Child Protection Authority, with particular relevance to psychology, sociology and counselling-related work.

The position is classified under the JM 1-1 salary grade and is open to both external and internal candidates who satisfy the prescribed qualifications.

Qualifications & Experience

External Candidates

Applicants should possess:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or Sociology recognized by the University Grants Commission.
• A Diploma in Counselling from an accredited institute recognized by the University Grants Commission.
• Computer literacy and competency in working with Excel and SPSS will be an added advantage.

Internal Candidates

Applicants should satisfy either of the following:

• Possess the qualifications required for external candidates; OR
• Have completed a minimum of 5 years of satisfactory service in a post of Management Assistant – Non-Technological (MA 1) in the subject area relevant to the post.

Key Responsibilities

The Psychosocial Officer will be expected to:

• Support psychosocial activities carried out by the National Child Protection Authority.
• Assist with psychology, sociology and counselling-related activities.
• Support individuals requiring psychosocial assistance within the scope of the Authority’s functions.
• Assist in maintaining relevant records and documentation.
• Coordinate with relevant officers and stakeholders regarding psychosocial matters.
• Support programmes and activities related to child protection and psychosocial wellbeing.
• Prepare relevant reports and documentation.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Authority.

Required Skills

Candidates should have:

• Knowledge of psychology or sociology.
• Knowledge of counselling practices.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work sensitively with individuals and vulnerable groups.
• Good counselling-related skills.
• Computer literacy.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and SPSS will be an added advantage.
• Good documentation and report-writing skills.
• Ability to work effectively with relevant officers and stakeholders.
• Strong sense of responsibility, confidentiality and professionalism.

Salary & Benefits

Salary Scale: JM 1-1 – 01/2025

Salary: Rs. 72,650 – 10 × Rs. 1,360 – 18 × Rs. 2,040 – Rs. 122,970 per month.

Basic Salary as at 01 January 2027: Rs. 72,650.

Other applicable allowances and employment benefits will be provided according to the relevant regulations and conditions of service.
