Qualifications & Experience

Candidates applying for the Chief Internal Auditor position should meet the following eligibility criteria:

• Membership of a recognized professional accounting body such as CA, ACCA or CIA, or a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in Finance, Accountancy or Management.
• A Class and Master’s Degree qualification will be an added advantage.
• 8 to 10 years of managerial-level experience in the Banking Sector or Non-Banking Financial Institution (NBFI) sector.
• Comprehensive understanding of local regulatory requirements.
• Strong knowledge of corporate finance and accepted auditing standards.
• Knowledge of forensic investigation techniques.

Key Responsibilities

The Chief Internal Auditor will be responsible for leading and overseeing the internal audit function of the organization.

Key responsibilities include:

• Develop the annual risk-based internal audit plan and present it to the Board Audit Committee.
• Implement and maintain internal audit policies, procedures and guidelines.
• Report internal audit findings and activities to the Board Audit Committee.
• Develop and continuously evaluate internal controls to identify opportunities for improvement in policies and processes.
• Review the reliability and integrity of financial and operational information.
• Review systems established to ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, laws and regulations.
• Prepare and present comprehensive audit reports periodically.
• Follow up on audit recommendations and monitor their implementation.
• Mentor and guide audit staff.
• Drive continuous improvement within the internal audit function.
• Integrate new data-driven auditing techniques into the audit process.
• Provide objective assurance regarding internal controls, governance and accounting processes.
