Company Overview

The Industrial Technology Institute (ITI), the successor to the Ceylon Institute of Scientific & Industrial Research (CISIR), is a statutory board functioning under the Ministry of Science and Technology. ITI is a multidisciplinary research institute dedicated to promoting industrial development through research and development, consultancy, contract research, technical services, and professional training.

Qualifications & Experience

Applicants should satisfy one of the following qualification pathways:

Option 1

• B.Sc. Special Degree (4 years) with First Class or Second Class in Science recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Sri Lanka.
• Postgraduate Degree (by Research) in Science recognized by the UGC.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant research experience after the first degree.

OR

• PhD in Science recognized by the UGC.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant research experience after the first degree.

Option 2

• B.Sc. Special Degree (4 years), B.Sc. Degree (4 years), or B.Sc. Degree (3 years) with First Class or Second Class recognized by the UGC.
• PhD Degree in Science recognized by the UGC.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant research experience after the first degree.

Option 3

• B.Sc. Degree (3 years) in Science recognized by the UGC.
• Postgraduate Degree (by Research) in Science recognized by the UGC.
• PhD Degree in Science recognized by the UGC.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant research experience after the first degree.

Option 4

• B.Sc. Degree in Science recognized by the UGC.
• Postgraduate Degree (by Research) in Science recognized by the UGC.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant laboratory, research, or industry experience after the first degree, including 6 years after obtaining the postgraduate degree.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should possess:

• Strong knowledge of Physics or Engineering Physics.
• Expertise in industrial measurements, calibration, and metrology.
• Understanding of measurement uncertainty and metrological traceability.
• Knowledge of national and international calibration standards.
• Experience in calibration, testing, and verification of measuring instruments for mass, temperature, electrical, dimensional, pressure, and volume parameters.
• Practical experience in calibration laboratories or industrial measurement environments will be an added advantage.

Age Limit

• 30 to 55 years.
• The upper age limit does not apply to internal candidates and eligible Government employees.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct research and development projects and provide technological services.
• Support technology transfer by identifying, adapting, and introducing relevant technologies to local industries.
• Analyze patents and intellectual property information to identify research opportunities.
• Prepare technical reports, certificates, and scientific documentation.
• Ensure laboratory instruments are properly maintained and calibrated.
• Utilize the Institute’s ERP system and ICT tools to improve operational efficiency.
• Deliver technical presentations, seminars, and staff training.
• Support the implementation of institutional committees and internal management processes.
• Monitor scientific and technological advancements and develop innovative research methodologies.
• Identify market opportunities and strengthen institute-industry collaboration.
• Build multidisciplinary research teams and secure research funding.
• Supervise junior researchers and postgraduate students.
• Perform additional duties assigned by the Section Head, Additional Director General, or Director General.

Salary & Benefits

• Salary Scale: AR 2 – Rs. 133,220 – 10 × 3,600 – Rs. 169,220 per month (effective from 01.01.2027).
• Initial Salary: Rs. 116,763 per month.
