Job Overview

The Office on Missing Persons (OMP) is seeking a highly qualified legal professional to lead its Legal, Policy and Research Unit. The selected candidate will be responsible for managing legal obligations, addressing legal challenges, and formulating advocacy strategies to strengthen the legal, policy, and research interventions of the institution.

Organization Overview

The Office on Missing Persons (OMP) is an independent institution established under the Office on Missing Persons (Establishment, Administration and Discharge of Functions) Act No. 14 of 2016. The institution is responsible for addressing matters relating to missing and disappeared persons and supporting reconciliation, accountability, and truth-seeking initiatives in Sri Lanka.

Qualifications & Experience

Applicants must possess:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Law recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), or
• Be an Attorney-at-Law.

AND

• A Postgraduate Degree (Master’s) in Law.
• Minimum of 12 years’ experience at a Managerial Level in a Corporation, Statutory Board, Institution, or a reputed private organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Legal, Policy and Research Unit.
• Handle legal obligations relating to internal and external operations.
• Provide legal guidance and solutions to institutional challenges.
• Formulate advocacy strategies and legal interventions.
• Support policy development and research initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Contribute to the strategic objectives of the Office on Missing Persons.

• Strong legal knowledge and analytical skills.
• Expertise in policy formulation and legal research.
• Strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
• Leadership and team management experience.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to manage complex legal and governance matters.
• Computer literacy and knowledge of transitional justice will be an added advantage.

Salary & Benefits

• Salary Scale: HM 1-1 2025 [Rs. 140,640 – 15 x 4,100 – 202,140]
