Job Overview

Qualifications & Experience

Interested audit firms should meet the following qualifications and requirements:

  • Proven track record in conducting external audits for international NGOs.
  • Preferably affiliated with international audit firms or networks with offices in Colombo.
  • Membership or accreditation with recognized professional accounting bodies such as:
    • Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
    • Association of International Accountants (AIA)
    • Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA)
    • Other internationally recognized accounting and auditing bodies
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in:
    • External auditing
    • Accounting and financial reporting
    • NGO financial audits
  • Strong understanding of:
    • International accounting standards
    • Sri Lankan accounting regulations
    • Donor compliance requirements
    • NGO statutory reporting obligations

Key Responsibilities

The selected consultant/audit firm will be responsible for:

  • Conducting the annual statutory audit of ChildFund Sri Lanka.
  • Reviewing financial statements and providing an independent professional audit opinion.
  • Assessing internal financial controls and safeguarding mechanisms.
  • Verifying compliance with:
    • Donor agreements
    • Organizational policies
    • Applicable laws and regulations
    • Accounting standards
  • Reviewing administrative controls related to program and sponsor services.
  • Examining:
    • Financial records and supporting documents
    • Fund utilization and disbursement records
    • Grant-related financial statements
    • Reports submitted to government departments and donor agencies
  • Preparing:
    • Audit report
    • Management letter
    • Audit checklist
  • Reporting significant findings, fraud risks, compliance issues, or weaknesses identified during the audit process.

Required Skills

  • Strong auditing and analytical skills.
  • Excellent understanding of NGO financial systems and donor-funded projects.
  • Knowledge of Sri Lankan statutory audit requirements.
  • High level of professional integrity and independence.
  • Strong reporting and documentation capabilities.
  • Ability to identify financial risks and compliance gaps.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
