Job Overview
The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) is inviting applications from qualified and experienced legal professionals for the position of Legal Officer. This opportunity is based at the National Headquarters in Colombo and is ideal for candidates with a strong background in legal practice, legal advisory services, or institutional legal affairs. Qualifications & Experience
Applicants should possess the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B.) from a recognized university.
- Admission as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.
- A qualification in International Humanitarian Law, International Law, Human Rights, or a related field will be an added advantage.
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant professional experience in legal practice, legal advisory services, or institutional legal affairs.
- Sound understanding of humanitarian, community, and volunteer-based service interventions.
- Ability to work in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
- Providing legal advice and guidance on organizational legal matters.
- Preparing, reviewing, and drafting legal documents, agreements, and correspondence.
- Supporting institutional legal affairs and ensuring legal compliance.
- Assisting with legal risk assessment and policy implementation.
- Conducting legal research and preparing legal opinions.
- Supporting the organization’s governance and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Maintaining confidentiality and professional ethical standards.
- Contributing to legal initiatives that support the humanitarian mission of the organization.
