The Sri Lanka Ports Authority is inviting applications from qualified Sri Lankan citizens for the position of Sea Traffic Co-ordinator at Galle / Trincomalee. Applicants must clearly indicate the post for which they are applying, with separate applications required for each post.

Company Overview

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) is responsible for the management and development of Sri Lanka’s ports and related maritime services. The Sea Traffic Co-ordinator position supports maritime and port operations requiring qualified personnel with relevant seafaring, communication and navigation experience.

Qualifications & Experience

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

• Passed three (03) subjects at the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination at one sitting.
• Possess a valid Certificate of Competency issued or recognized by the Director General of Merchant Shipping of Sri Lanka, or an equivalent valid Certificate of Competency issued by the Maritime Administration of India or Australia.
• Alternatively, possess a recognized Higher Certificate of Competency as Master on ships of not less than 3,000 GT engaged in Near Coastal Voyages (N.C.V.).
• Alternatively, possess another valid Higher Certificate of Competency issued or recognized by the Director General of Merchant Shipping of Sri Lanka, or an equivalent valid Certificate of Competency issued by the Maritime Administration of India or Australia.
• Possess a Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) certificate or equivalent.
• Possess a Radar Surveillance Certificate issued by or recognized by the Director General of Merchant Shipping or equivalent.
• Have a minimum of one (01) year of experience as a duty officer on a ship.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and support sea traffic operations at the relevant port.
• Carry out duties associated with maritime and port traffic coordination.
• Communicate and transmit signals using Very High Frequency (VHF) communication equipment.
• Apply relevant navigation and maritime communication procedures.
• Support the safe and efficient movement of vessels within the port environment.
• Perform duties assigned according to the operational requirements of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority.

Required Skills

• Practical knowledge of maritime and port operations.
• Ability to operate and communicate using VHF communication equipment.
• Strong understanding of maritime communication procedures.
• Knowledge of radar surveillance and navigation.
• Good knowledge of English and the ability to communicate fluently.
• Ability to work responsibly in a safety-critical maritime environment.
• Strong communication, coordination and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work according to operational requirements.

The vacancy specifically requires knowledge and ability to transmit signals using VHF communication equipment and the ability to speak English fluently.

Salary & Benefits

• Basic Salary: Rs. 53,425/- per month.
• Annual Increment: Rs. 1,150/-.
• Approximate Gross Salary: Rs. 132,000/- per month.
• The position is a permanent post.
• Permanent employees are entitled to the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) and Employees’ Trust Fund (ETF), subject to applicable conditions.
