Job Description
Emerge Lanka Foundation is a survivor-centered nonprofit organization working with girls and young women who have experienced abuse. The Psychosocial Support Officer will work in state-run shelters, delivering group-based and individual psychosocial support for children under 18.
This role involves direct facilitation, case support, and collaboration with shelter staff. The candidate will use creative and child-friendly approaches such as art, play, and storytelling to support emotional wellbeing, resilience, and healing.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate group-based psychosocial sessions using trauma-informed, child-friendly methods
- Conduct assessments and check-ins to identify participant needs and risks
- Provide case support, referrals, and follow-up for children needing additional care
- Design and implement structured psychosocial programs and schedules
- Deliver training sessions for staff and caregivers on child protection and trauma-informed care
- Develop child-friendly materials and tools in collaboration with the team
- Maintain accurate and confidential records, reporting, and monitoring
- Support staff wellbeing and trauma-informed self-care practices
- Provide support during centre activities, exposure visits, or crisis situations
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with postgraduate qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Child Development, or related field
- Experience in child protection, psychosocial support, or working with trauma-affected children
- Training in Psychological First Aid, case management, or child safeguarding
- Fluency in Sinhala (Tamil is an added advantage)
- Strong communication, facilitation, and documentation skills
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with care, professionalism, and emotional intelligence
Preferred Skills
- Experience in group facilitation using creative methods (art, play, storytelling)
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care practices
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
Working Conditions
- Part-time role (4 days per week)

- Occasional on-call support for alumni or emergency situations
