Job Overview

Department of Meteorology under the Ministry of Defence is inviting applications from eligible Sri Lankan citizens for the post of Meteorological Assistant Grade III. This is a permanent and pensionable government position with opportunities to work at the department’s head office and regional offices across Sri Lanka.

Salary

• Salary Scale: Rs. 40,000 – 61,880 (PL-1-2025 Salary Scale)
• Salary will be paid in accordance with Public Administration Circular 10/2025.
• Officers are required to pass the First Efficiency Bar Examination within 3 years of recruitment.
• The post is pensionable, and contributions to the Widows’ and Orphans’ Pension Scheme / Widowers’ and Orphans’ Pension Scheme are mandatory.

Job Responsibilities

Selected candidates will be responsible for:

• Cleaning and maintaining the Department of Meteorology head office and regional office premises.
• Cleaning and maintaining meteorological observation instrument enclosures according to prescribed standards.
• Cleaning meteorological instruments and assisting in their maintenance.
• Assisting with meteorological observation activities at head office and regional offices.
• Taking necessary measures to safeguard meteorological instruments at regional offices during night hours.
• Performing duties on a shift basis, including night shifts.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

• Be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
• Possess excellent character.
• Be 18 to 45 years of age as of 20 July 2026.
  • The upper age limit does not apply to applicants already holding permanent positions in the Public Service or Provincial Public Service.
• Have passed the G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) examination with:
  • Six (6) subjects, including
  • At least two (2) Credit passes, in not more than two sittings (excluding optional subjects).
• Possess the physical and mental fitness required to serve anywhere in Sri Lanka.
• Have completed all required qualifications on or before 20 July 2026.

• Birth Certificate
• National Identity Card (NIC)
• Educational qualification certificates
• Training certificates (if available)
• Work experience certificates (if available)
• Residence and Character Certificate issued by the Grama Niladhari (issued within the last 6 months)
• Two recently obtained character certificates

Language Requirement

Selected officers must obtain the prescribed second language proficiency in accordance with Public Administration Circular 18/2020 and subsequent amendments. Failure to obtain the required proficiency may result in suspension of salary increments until the qualification is achieved.
