Job Overview

The Department for Registration of Persons, under the Ministry of Digital Economy, is inviting applications from qualified Sri Lankan citizens for one (01) vacancy for the post of Legal Officer (Grade III – Executive Service Category) through Open Recruitment – 2026. Selection will be based on an interview for evaluating eligibility.

Salary

• Salary Scale (SL-1-2025):
  Rs. 82,150 – 195,970 per month
• Government-approved allowances are payable according to the applicable regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

Professional Qualification

Applicants must:

• Have taken the oath as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.

Experience

Applicants must satisfy either of the following:

• At least 3 years of active professional legal practice after taking the oath as an Attorney-at-Law.

OR

• At least 3 years of experience in a legal position in a State institution after taking the oath as an Attorney-at-Law.

Experience certificates must clearly indicate the service period and be properly certified.

Other Requirements

Applicants must:

• Be a Sri Lankan citizen.
• Possess excellent moral character.
• Be physically and mentally fit to perform duties anywhere in Sri Lanka.
• Fulfil all qualifications by the application closing date.

Age Limit

Applicants should be:

• 21 years or above
• Not more than 45 years on the closing date for applications.

Recruitment Process

Selection will be based on an Interview for Evaluating Eligibility with a total of 100 marks.

Additional Marks Can Be Earned For

• Postgraduate Degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Law
• LL.B. with honours or higher classifications
• Court appearances and legal case experience
• Information Technology or IT Law qualifications
• English language qualifications (Degree, Diploma, IELTS/TOEFL, Moot Court achievements, etc.)

Terms of Employment

• Permanent and pensionable post.
• Subject to a 3-year probation period.
• Must pass the First Efficiency Bar Examination within the probation period.
• Must obtain the required proficiency in the second official language in accordance with Public Administration Circular No. 18/2020.
