Job Description

Calling for Applications! Competitive Examination for Recruitment of Graduates to the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service (Open) – 2024 (2025).

The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education invites applications from qualified graduates (external applicants) to sit for the competitive examination to fill vacancies in the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service Class 3 Grade I (a) for Sinhala, Tamil, and English medium vacancies in National and Provincial schools.

Exam Details

• Exam Name: Competitive Examination for Recruitment of Graduates to Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service Class 3 Grade I (a) (Open) – 2024 (2025).

• Medium: The examination will be held in Sinhala, Tamil, and English media.

• Testing Authority: Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Educational Qualifications: Should have obtained a degree recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) or a degree awarding institute.

• Age Limit: Should be not less than 18 years and not more than 35 years of age as of the closing date of applications.

• Character: Must be of excellent moral character.

• Citizenship: Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.

Subject Areas

Recruitment will be made for various subjects including but not limited to:

• Science, Mathematics, English, Technology subjects, Languages, Commerce, Arts, and other subjects listed in the vacancy schedule.

Method of Selection

• Written Examination: Candidates must face a written examination consisting of two papers:

  1. Aptitude Test: (1 hour, 100 marks) – Tests logical reasoning, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

  2. General Knowledge: (1 hour, 100 marks) – Tests knowledge of current affairs, education reforms, and general trends.

• Interview: Candidates who pass the written exam will be called for a general interview and a practical test (if applicable).

Salary Scale

• GE-01-2016: Rs. 31,490 – 44×6 – 11×660 – 10×755 – 13×930 – Rs. 54,250 (Monthly) plus applicable government allowances.

Internal Recruitment! Limited Competitive Examination for Recruitment of Graduates to the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service – 2024 (2025).

The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education calls for applications from existing government employees (graduates) for the Limited Competitive Examination to recruit to Class 3 Grade I (a) of the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service.

Target Audience

This examination is strictly for graduates currently holding permanent appointments in the Public Service or Provincial Public Service (e.g., Development Officers, Management Service Officers, etc.) who wish to join the Teaching Service.

Eligibility Criteria

• Service Requirement: Must hold a permanent and pensionable appointment in the Public or Provincial Public Service and have been confirmed in the appointment.

• Qualifications: Should have obtained a recognized degree from a UGC-approved university or institute.

• Age Limit: generally, the upper age limit is higher than the Open category (often up to 45 years or as per the specific Gazette notification).

• Experience: Should have completed active service for a specified period (usually 5 years) and not be subject to disciplinary actions.

Examination Process

• Written Exam: Will consist of papers testing Aptitude and General Knowledge/Teaching Methodology.

• Language: The exam is conducted in Sinhala, Tamil, and English.

Conditions of Service

• Selected candidates will be appointed to schools where vacancies exist, often in difficult/remote areas, and must serve a mandatory period (usually 3-5 years) in that station before requesting a transfer.
