Qualifications & Experience

Applicants must satisfy at least one of the following qualification pathways for external recruitment.

Pathway 1: Bachelor’s Degree

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Dairy Technology, Agriculture, Veterinary Science or another equivalent degree relevant to the position.
• The degree must be recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Sri Lanka.

Pathway 2: NVQ Level 7

• A certificate of proficiency in Agriculture, Livestock or Animal Husbandry at NVQ Level 7 or above.
• The certificate must be issued by a technical or vocational training institute accepted by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC).

Pathway 3: NVQ Level 6

• A certificate of proficiency in Agriculture, Livestock or Animal Husbandry at NVQ Level 6 or above from a TVEC-accepted institution.
• At least five years of post-qualifying experience in the dairy development field in the Public Service, a Corporation, Statutory Board or Institution, or a reputed private institution.

Pathway 4: NVQ Level 5

• A certificate of proficiency in Agriculture, Livestock or Animal Husbandry at NVQ Level 5 or above from a TVEC-accepted institution.
• At least ten years of post-qualifying experience in the dairy development field in the Public Service, a Corporation, Statutory Board or Institution, or a reputed private institution.

Internal Candidates

Internal applicants must satisfy one of the following requirements:

• Possess the qualifications and experience required under the external recruitment pathways.

OR

• Complete 15 years of satisfactory service in a supervisory category in production, quality or dairy-related work at MILCO, including five years in the Management Assistant – Technological (MA 2-3) Grade II category, as specified in the vacancy notice.

Key Responsibilities

The Extension Officer will oversee and coordinate dairy development and milk collection activities. Key responsibilities include:

• Monitoring and supervising dairy instructors.
• Coordinating and monitoring farmer federation activities.
• Supervising milk collection operations.
• Monitoring and coordinating FMS activities.
• Supporting the effective implementation of dairy development programmes.
• Coordinating field activities to improve operational efficiency.
• Reporting on the progress of milk collection and dairy development activities.
• Carrying out other relevant duties assigned by the organization.

Required Skills

• Knowledge of dairy technology, agriculture, livestock or animal husbandry.
• Ability to supervise and coordinate field staff.
• Understanding of milk collection and dairy development operations.
• Communication and coordination skills.
