The Tea Research Institute of Sri Lanka (TRI) is currently seeking a highly qualified professional for the position of Director to lead its Research and Development activities.

• Responsible for all Research and Development activities, as well as the administrative and financial affairs of the Institute.

• Provide leadership and encouragement to the Institute’s staff.

Qualifications & Experience

Applicants can apply under either External or Internal categories:

External Candidates

• Education: A four-year special degree in Science, Agriculture, or Engineering with a first or second-class upper division, and a PhD in a relevant discipline.

• Experience: At least 20 years of research experience at a managerial level, with at least 12 years post-PhD and 5 years at a senior managerial level with a proven track record.

Internal Candidates

• Education: A four-year special degree in a relevant field with a second-class division and a PhD.

• Experience: Specific years of satisfactory service in roles such as Additional Director (3 years), Deputy Director Research/Extension (5 years), or Head of Division/Principal Research Officer/Principal Advisory Officer (8 years).

Remuneration and Benefits

• Salary Scale (HM 2-3 2025): Rs. 173,000 – 12 x 4,850 – Rs. 231,200 p.m..

  • As of January 1, 2026, the paid amount is Rs. 150,325 with an unpaid amount of Rs. 22,675.

• Provident Fund: Employee contributes 10% and the Institute contributes 15%.

• ETF: Institute contributes 3% to the Employees’ Trust Fund.

• Age: Should be between 40 and 50 years (upper age limit does not apply to internal candidates).

• Method of Selection: By a structured interview.
