Qualifications & Experience

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

• Passed the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination with six (06) subjects, including Language and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings.
• Possess a certificate relevant to Upholstery or Cushion Work issued by a Government Institute or a Vocational Training Institute recognized by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC), or hold an NVQ Level 3 qualification relevant to the trade.
• Minimum of three (03) years of relevant work experience in a Government institution or a recognized private organization.
• Applicants should be between 18 and 45 years of age. (The age limit does not apply to applicants already serving in Government service.)
• Must successfully pass both the interview and practical test relevant to the post.
• Should be physically and mentally fit to perform duties anywhere in Sri Lanka.
• Must possess excellent character.
• Should satisfy the required medical examination if requested.

Key Responsibilities

• Manufacture, repair, and replace cushions and upholstered components.
• Measure, cut, stitch, and fit upholstery materials accurately.
• Repair seating, furniture, and interior fittings used in port facilities and vehicles.
• Select suitable foam, fabric, leather, and upholstery materials.
• Inspect completed work to ensure durability and quality standards.
• Maintain upholstery tools, sewing machines, and equipment.
• Follow workplace safety procedures during all upholstery work.
• Support engineering and maintenance teams with upholstery-related tasks.

Required Skills

• Knowledge of upholstery and cushion fabrication techniques.
• Experience using sewing machines and upholstery tools.
• Ability to measure, cut, stitch, and assemble materials accurately.
• Good craftsmanship and attention to detail.
• Ability to interpret work specifications and measurements.
• Strong problem-solving and teamwork skills.
• Good communication skills.

Salary & Benefits

• Salary Code: 10.3 (SS3)
• Initial Salary Step: Rs. 35,845/=
• Annual Increment: Rs. 365/=
• Approximate Monthly Gross Salary: Rs. 111,000/=
