Lanka Marine Services (Pvt) Ltd (LMS) is the leading bunker supplier in Sri Lanka with expertise in the bunker industry for over two decades. It operates in all the major Sea Ports in Sri Lanka and has a strong network with many International suppliers/brokers. It is also the Principal stockist and delivery agent of Marine lubricants in Sri Lanka for International Oil majors.
Job Responsibilities
To support and drive the company’s fuel trading and hedging strategy by providing data-driven market insights, executing buy/sell decisions, and managing price risk exposure. The role plays a critical part in optimizing margins through effective commodity trading, hedging strategies, and market intelligence in the marine fuel (bunkering) business.
Market Analysis & Intelligence
- Monitor global oil and marine fuel markets (e.g., Brent, WTI, Singapore Gasoil, VLSFO trends).
- Analyze supply-demand dynamics, geopolitical developments, and macroeconomic indicators impacting fuel prices.
- Provide daily/weekly market reports with actionable insights and price outlooks.
Trading Decision Support
- Recommend optimal buy/sell strategies for bunker fuel procurement and sales.
- Support pricing decisions for customer quotations based on real-time market movements.
- Identify arbitrage opportunities and margin optimization strategies.
Hedging & Risk Management
- Develop and implement hedging strategies using derivatives (e.g., swaps, futures, options).
- Monitor exposure to price volatility and recommend risk mitigation actions.
- Track hedge effectiveness and ensure alignment with company risk appetite.
Trade Execution & Coordination
- Assist in executing trades in line with approved strategies and limits.
- Ensure proper documentation and compliance with internal controls.
Performance Tracking & Reporting
- Analyze trading performance, margins, and hedge outcomes.
- Prepare reports on P&L impact of trading and hedging activities.
- Maintain dashboards to track key trading and risk indicators.
Person Specifications
- Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, or related field.
- Professional qualifications (CFA, FRM, or equivalent) would be an advantage.
- 3–5 years’ experience in commodity trading, oil & gas, shipping, or financial markets.
- Exposure to fuel trading, derivatives, or risk management is preferred.
