Organization Overview

The Department of Government Factory is a Sri Lankan government department involved in manufacturing, engineering, machinery operation and related technical services. Its work includes metal fabrication, machining, casting, carpentry, equipment maintenance and other production activities.

The department is recruiting technical support personnel to assist with its manufacturing, maintenance and service operations.

Qualifications & Experience

Educational Qualifications

Applicants must generally have:

• Passed six subjects at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination.
• Obtained at least two credit passes.
• Completed the required passes in not more than two sittings.

Applicants who have obtained an NVQ Level 3 qualification are exempt from the above educational qualification requirement under Public Administration Circular No. 28/2016, as stated in the recruitment notice.

Professional Qualifications

Candidates must possess an NVQ Level 2 qualification relevant to the duties of the respective post, issued by a technical or vocational training institution recognized by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC).

Alternatively, applicants may qualify through a recognized technical training certificate for a course lasting at least one year, together with the specified relevant work experience.

Position-specific requirements are outlined below.

1. Electric Crane Operator

• NVQ Level 2 qualification; OR
• A recognized technical training certificate for a course of at least one year, together with at least two years of experience operating electric cranes.

2. Furnaceman Assistant

• NVQ Level 2 qualification; OR
• A recognized technical training certificate for a course of at least one year, together with two years of experience in a recognized institution.

3. Fitter (General) Assistant

• NVQ Level 2 qualification; OR
• A recognized technical training certificate for a course of at least one year, together with at least two years of experience assembling and fitting machinery, equipment and die components.

4. Machine Operator (Production) Assistant

• NVQ Level 2 qualification; OR
• A recognized machine-operator training certificate for a course of at least one year, together with at least two years of experience operating production machinery.

5. Machinist Assistant

• NVQ Level 2 qualification; OR
• A recognized machinist training certificate for a course of at least one year, together with at least two years of machining experience.

6. Molder Assistant

• NVQ Level 2 qualification; OR
• A recognized moulding training certificate for a course of at least one year, together with at least two years of experience as a molder in a recognized institution.

7. Pattern Maker Assistant

• NVQ Level 2 qualification; OR
• A recognized pattern-making training certificate for a course of at least one year, together with at least two years of pattern-making experience.

8. Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Technician Assistant

• NVQ Level 2 qualification; OR
• A recognized air-conditioning training certificate for a course of at least one year, together with at least two years of experience installing and repairing refrigeration, deep-freezing and air-conditioning systems.

9. Tool and Die Maker Assistant

• NVQ Level 2 qualification; OR
• A recognized tool-and-die manufacturing training certificate for a course of at least one year, together with at least two years of experience in tool and die making.

10. Carpenter (Building) Assistant

• NVQ Level 2 qualification; OR
• A recognized training certificate for a course of at least one year in building-roof construction, together with at least two years of building carpentry experience.

11. Carpenter (Furniture) Assistant

• NVQ Level 2 qualification; OR
• A recognized furniture-making training certificate for a course of at least one year, together with at least two years of furniture-making experience.

12. Hood Maker and Upholsterer Assistant

• NVQ Level 2 qualification; OR
• A recognized training certificate for a course of at least one year, together with documentary proof of two years of experience in a recognized institution.

13. Pipe Fitter Assistant

• NVQ Level 2 qualification; OR
• A recognized technical training certificate for a course of at least one year, together with at least two years of experience in the boiler and air-compressor field.

Age Requirements

• Minimum age: 18 years.
• Maximum age: 45 years as of the application closing date.

Other Eligibility Requirements

• Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
• Must possess excellent character.
• Must be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of the post.
• Must be willing to serve in any part of Sri Lanka.
• All required qualifications must have been completed by 06 November 2026.

• Operate mechanical and electric cranes.
• Carry out minor crane maintenance.

Furnaceman Assistant

• Operate furnaces used in casting operations.
• Assist with furnace repairs.

Fitter (General) Assistant

• Perform heavy fitting work, including manufacturing large-scale gates.
• Assist with machinery repairs.

Machine Operator (Production) Assistant

• Operate nail-making machines, saw-repair machinery and similar equipment.
• Assist with minor machine maintenance.

Machinist Assistant

• Operate boring, milling, lathe and drilling machines.
• Machine metal components and assist with minor servicing.

Molder Assistant

• Prepare moulds for casting.
• Prepare moulds for casting operations and assist during casting.

Pattern Maker Assistant

• Assist in manufacturing wooden patterns required for casting moulds.

Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Technician Assistant

• Assist with servicing and repairing refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment.

Tool and Die Maker Assistant

• Assist with manufacturing dies for tools and metal components.
• Assist with the repair of tools and dies.

Carpenter (Building) Assistant

• Perform timber work for building construction, including roofs, door frames and windows.
• Assist with repairs.

Carpenter (Furniture) Assistant

• Manufacture wooden furniture.
• Polish furniture and assist with repairs.

Hood Maker and Upholsterer Assistant

• Assist with cushion work, sewing and fitting curtains.
• Lay carpets and ceremonial walkways for events.

Pipe Fitter Assistant

• Assist with the operation and minor maintenance of air compressors and boilers.

Salary & Benefits

Salary Code: PL 2-2025

Monthly Salary Scale: LKR 41,800 – LKR 65,560

The salary scale consists of the following increments:

• 10 increments of LKR 490.
• 10 increments of LKR 540.
• 10 increments of LKR 590.
• 12 increments of LKR 630.

Initial Salary by Grade

• Grade III – LKR 41,800.
• Grade II – LKR 47,240.
• Grade I – LKR 52,690.
• Special Grade – LKR 58,630.

Salary payments will follow Schedule III of Public Administration Circular No. 10/2025 up to 01 January 2027 and Schedule II from 01 January 2027, as specified in the recruitment notice.
