Company Overview

The Department of Social Services is a government department responsible for providing social services, rehabilitation, disability-related services and community-based support programmes in Sri Lanka.

The Department provides services including speech therapy, sign language services, community-based rehabilitation and support for persons with disabilities.

Qualifications & Experience

Applicants should satisfy the following qualifications:

• Should be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
• Should be between 21 and 35 years of age as at the closing date for applications.
• Should possess either:
  • A Degree in Speech Therapy from a university recognized by the University Grants Commission; or
  • A full-time Diploma in Speech Therapy of not less than two years’ duration.
• Should possess sufficient physical and mental fitness to perform the duties of the post and serve in any part of Sri Lanka.
• Should be a person of excellent character.
• All qualifications required for appointment must have been fully satisfied by the date specified in the vacancy notice.
• The vacancy notice does not specify a separate work experience requirement.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will serve as a Speech Therapist (Grade III) within the Department of Social Services.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing speech therapy-related professional services as assigned by the Department.
• Performing duties associated with the Speech Therapist position.
• Supporting individuals who require speech and communication-related services.
• Carrying out assigned duties in accordance with departmental requirements.
• Being prepared to serve in any part of Sri Lanka.

Salary & Benefits

Salary Code: MN-6 – 2025

Salary Scale: Rs. 54,120 – 10 × 800 – 11 × 1,190 – 10 × 1,320 – 10 × 1,350 – Rs. 101,910/-

The specified salary scale will be effective from 01 January 2027.

• The Written Examination consists of:
  • Intelligence Test / Aptitude Test – 1 hour, 100 marks, 40% pass mark
  • General Knowledge – 1 hour, 100 marks, 40% pass mark
• Certificates will be examined at the General Interview to verify whether candidates have fulfilled the prescribed qualifications. No marks will be awarded at the General Interview.
• The selected candidate will be required to serve in any part of Sri Lanka.
• The appointment is to a permanent post with pension benefits, subject to applicable government regulations.
